10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade

3. Pumpkinhead

Pumpkinhead 1988
MGM & United Artists

Pumpkinhead sure is a wild ride - a creature feature directed by late, great special effects legend Stan Winston, which while a commercial flop upon release in 1988 quickly grew a sizable cult following once it hit home video.

The original Pumpkinhead was a dark fairy-tale centered around a grieving father (Lance Henriksen) who summoned the titular demonic entity in order to avenge his murdered son.

Three non-theatrical sequels followed over the next two decades, each of which were received indifferently by critics and fans alike, until in 2014 word of a reboot/remake first started doing the rounds.

Movement stalled for years until late 2021, when a Pumpkinhead remake was confirmed to be in development at Paramount under their boutique label Paramount Players. The script has been completed though the cast and crew haven't yet been announced.

Given that most Paramount Players movies end up foregoing theatrical releases in favour of streaming debuts, this likely won't be a mega-glossy, big-budget remake, but rather something more modest.
