Being a nerd of all things horror, it's Charley's frequent watching of Fright Night that has him suspicious that his next-door neighbour Jerry (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire.

Of course, few people believe young Brewster, so his girlfriend Amy (Amanda Bearse) hires Vincent to prove that Jerry is absolutely not a vampire. The problem is, Peter Vincent discovers that Jerry totally, totally is a vamp.

By the close of Fright Night, Charley has been put through the wringer, with his love of vampires very much coming back to bite him - his best pal 'Evil' Ed turned into a vampire by Jerry, girlfriend Amy likewise corrupted by Jerry, and Charley and Peter in a fight for their lives.

Even once Charley had rumbled Jerry's existence as a vampire, his obsession with these bloodsuckers got in the way of being able to have an easy life. To Jerry's credit, he offered an olive branch that he would leave Brewster be if Charley likewise ignored that Jerry was a vampire. Once Charley refused this offer, that's when the sh*t really hit the fan for him.
