Doctor Frankenstein's got nothing on Jeffrey Combs's Herbert West in the mad doctor stakes, but unfortunately he won't be in the upcoming Re-Animator reboot.
Re-Animator: Evolution will be a modern-day retelling of the original HP Lovecraft story the original film and its sequels were based on.
Re-Animator was essentially a riff on Frankenstein, following a creepy medical student who's dabbling in resurrection experiments. Naturally they don't go well and the film ends up becoming a cautionary tale about things that shouldn't be meddled with.
Johnathon Schaech is our new Dr West, while horror icon Brad Dourif, who provides the voice of Chucky in Child's Play, will also feature in the film.
Serge Levin is the man who is reanimating Reanimator, attached as writer and director, and he bandied phrases like "darker" and "more grounded in science" around in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting.
That's all well and good, but if Combs isn't involved in some capacity, fans of the originals may not be interested and this thing will end up dead on arrival.
