9. Nobody Told The Cast The True Extent Of The Chestburster Scene - Alien (1979)

Over three decades have passed, and
Alien is still considered to be the definite horror/sci-fi movie experience. In terms of sheer horror, you'd be hard pressed to beat it. Why is that? For starters, how about the infamous "chestburster" scene, in which a newly-homed Xenomorph spawn erupts through the centre of John Hurt's chest? Nowadays, this is remembered as one of horror cinema's all-time famous sequences, up there with
The Exorcist's "spider-walk" and something something
The Shining. The chestburster scene, though, was also the subject of some enforced method acting on behalf of its cast - some of whom were not particularly happy in the aftermath. Although the cast had been prepped with the gist of what was about to happen, they had no idea as to the extent of the horror-show carnage that was set to haunt their dreams forever: That's to say, the cosmic amounts of splattering blood had not been mentioned, and Veronica Cartwright's utterance of "Oh, God!" was a genuine cry for help.
