Whilst Goldfinger, Oddjob, Jaws, 006 and Raoul Silva might be James Bond's most famed and celebrated villains from over the franchise's 58 year history, none of them would be possible without the influence and mystery of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, first seen in From Russia With Love and only called 'Number 1', all the way back in 1968.

By the time Dr. No, the first ever big screen appearance of Sean Connery as James Bond, hit cinemas in 1962, producers Harry Saltzman and Albert Broccoli knew they were onto a winning formula and decided to invest into a long-running and mysterious villain to lurk in the shadows of every film.

Whilst he would continue to pop up time and time again with various amounts of screentime, Blofeld's very first appearance comes in the first Bond sequel, From Russia With Love. Blofeld is the head of the worldwide criminal organisation Spectre and spends most of the film lurking in the shadows, orchestrating all of plotpoints from right behind his desk.

Everything from Eric Pohlmann's powerful voice to the gentle caressing of his white cat makes this a truly brilliant entry for what would soon become a legendary villain in the series.
