10 Insane Times Supervillains Lost Their Powers
3. Soviet Batman Turned Off Soviet Superman's Powers
In Superman: Red Son, the Man of Steel doesn't grow up in Kansas, as he did in the normal DC Universe. Instead, he crashed his rocket on a farm in Ukraine, and after his powers manifested in adolescence, he opted to share his abilities with the state like a good Communist.
He becomes a tool of propaganda for Stalin, but after he learns that his own people are being imprisoned and killed in Gulags, he rebels and kills Stalin. Once he's dead, Superman takes his place as the leader of the Soviet Union, and begins ruling in much the same way as his predecessor.
Despite his best intentions, Superman quickly becomes a dictator the rest of the world lives in fear of, but there is one man who despises him: Batman. In this world, Batman works to undermine Superman at every turn, and eventually, catches him in a trap.
After luring the Comrade of Steel to the same gulag his parents were killed in, Batman turns on a large array of red lights, which emulate Superman's home planet's sun. His powers are immediately negated, and Batman wastes no time in kicking the ever-living snot out of him.
Eventually, he is freed when the lights go out, but instead of being captured to be used in Superman's propaganda, Batman detonates an explosive device inside his chest, taking himself out to spite his nemesis.
