5. Taking The Tesseract Now Is A Huge Mistake

The end of the Avengers is pretty damn cool. The day's been saved, our heroes are friends, Loki's trussed up in the Asgardian equivalent of the Hannibal Lecter mask and Thor departs with the Tesseract. I'm sorry, but what? They departed with the only thing that might give Earth a coherent defence plan? Frankly, I could understand the bafflement from that shady council Thor says we're not ready for the higher form of war it would entail, but that's not really much of an excuse. That higher form of war already came to Earth, in the shape of Loki and his army he pulled from the corners of space. Thor's a pretty astute bloke he's got to realise Loki, silver-tongued as he may be, couldn't drum this army from nowhere, even if he hasn't seen the Other or Thanos. The fact of the matter is that war is coming whether they want it or not, and though the Avengers may be awesome, they can't be everywhere. Frankly, in taking something so valuable, Thor might've well just signed Earth's death warrant.
