10 More Amazing Trailers That Tricked You Into Seeing Terrible Horror Movies

The Alien saga has declined in quality so significantly over the last 30 years, it's easy to forget it was initially considered the peak of sci-fi horror. For this reason, Ridley Scott's franchise was in desperate need of a revival.

When it was announced a prequel called Prometheus was in the works, it was hard not to get pumped. Although this origin story had an astounding cast and was being helmed by the original director, fans were worried about jumping on the hype-train. Even if Prometheus was good, there was no way it could recapture the magic of the original, right?

Then the trailer dropped.

Based on this suitably epic and terrifying footage, Prometheus would answer many lingering questions, including the origins of the Xenomorphs and the Space Jockey. The viral campaign, which included several film shorts, indicated the story would focus on world-building and significantly expand the Alien lore.

Instead, all we got was a convoluted dumpster fire. The plot was incomprehensible, the lore was barely explored, and the characters' behaviour was non-sensical.

What's worse is that it was plain to see that there was a brilliant story lurking deep down that could've worked if the script had gone through a few more drafts.

Prometheus may not be the worst entry in the series by any stretch of the imagination. But due to the audacious marketing, it was definitely the most disappointing.
