10 Most Boring Blockbusters Of All Time
3. Ocean's Eleven
This remake of the 1960 Rat Pack caper promises a great deal: the director is Steven Soderbergh (Best Director, Traffic) and the cast includes Julia Roberts (Best Actress, Erin Brockovich) and George Clooney (Best Supporting Actor, Syriana). Alas, the film is so listless that making it to the end becomes a challenge.
A story about an ex-con attempting to rob 3 Las Vegas casinos ought to be a fun romp (especially when the cast also includes Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Andy Garcia), but the characters exist only to spout “cool” dialogue which they do in a series of interminable sequences where nothing actually happens. Never mind a few more twists and turns – the movie needs a shot of adrenaline to get its heart pumping.
It’s the kind of picture whose idea of “charm” is having Clooney and Roberts share a scene where nobody does very much, as though seeing two stars in the same shot is spectacle enough for one film. As for the picture’s idea of action, there are some really cool shots of Brad Pitt walking down the street that ought to satisfy the most die-hard action fan.
