10 Most Brutal Star Wars Movie Deaths

5. Qui-Gon Jinn (The Phantom Menace)

Cause Of Death: Rammed through the stomach by Darth Maul's lightsaber.

It could be said that the scene in which Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn perished was both the death of a great character, and the death of the prequels themselves.

Alongside Darth Maul, Qui-Gon was arguably the single best thing about The Phantom Menace, and the fact that both died within seconds of each other left the prequels feeling lacklustre from here on out.

And as if that wasn't enough, the brutal murder of the Jedi master cast an ominous shadow over young Anakin Skywalker's destiny. With Qui-Gon dead, the future Vader fell under the tutelage of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who, despite his best efforts, produced an emotionally unstable Padawan who would go on to become one of the strongest Sith Lords the galaxy has ever known.

That's even without mentioning the incredible pain that being impaled by a lightsaber blade would surely bring. The loss of Qui-Gon was not only a savage act on behalf of Darth Maul, but it had massive, negative repurcussions for the future of the Republic and the Rebellion.
