10 Most Chilling Star Trek Moments

7. Chuvok

One of the most recent examples on this list includes the return of a beloved character to the Star Trek franchise - or does it?

Star Trek: Picard has been something of a victory lap for the middle-era of Trek, particularly TNG, DS9, and Voyager. The seventh episode of the third season, Dominion, opens with Seven of Nine attempting to gain aid from her former crewmate, Tuvok.

The moment was incredible - finally, Tim Russ was back on our screens, donning the pointy ears. What's more, in the interim, Tuvok had achieved the rank of Captain, which was surely something to celebrate. The season had already confirmed that Changelings were infiltrating Starfleet, so it is little surprise that the crew of the Titan-A run various security checks on Tuvok, who seems to pass them all.

It's Seven who correctly identifies that this is not her old friend. When she confronts him, Russ raises his lips in a smile that sends a cold shiver down the spines of everyone watching. It works on several levels. First, that smile, so often a symbol of joy, is a twisted example of just how alone this crew is. Second. Tuvok is so steeped in Star Trek history that the mere suggestion that they could get to even him - was truly a dark, disturbing idea.
