In 2022, Winnie-the-Pooh - the most famous creation of author A. A. Milne and a cherished part of many childhoods - entered the public domain. Almost immediately, somebody announced that they were making a movie where Pooh and his Hundred Acre Wood buddies were transformed into murderers.

You’ve got to admire the hustle at the very least.

In this world, Christopher Robin abandoned his animal friends to go to university, which sent them into a feral state. When the boy returns home all grown up, his former buddies seek to enact their horrible revenge.

Where to even start with something like this? Firstly, the “animals” aren’t animals at all, they’re people in bad masks that the audience is asked to believe are anthropomorphised bears and pigs. Secondly, Winnie-the-Pooh is one of the softest, cuddliest fictional creations ever. Now, he’s got a big knife and is decapitating people.

Blood and Honey failed to find an audience, even in an ironic sense. It was mauled by critics, but there must have been some interest in it, because a sequel got made the following year as part of a new initiative, The Twisted Childhood Universe.
