10 Most Viewed Movie Trailers In First 24 Hours Of Release

8. The Lion King Trailer – 174 Million Views

Since Walt Disney Studios' first live-action remake Alice In Wonderland in 2010, the studio’s had gigantic success and made billions from remaking their animated classics. And this trend continued with this familiar musical drama about a young lion struggling to become the true king of Pride Rock.

After his success with the live-action remake of The Jungle Book in 2016, director Jon Favreau drew a massive 174 million trailer views in 2019 with the digitally cutting-edge Lion King, revealed on Disney's Investor Day 2019 Webcast. It was the most viewers ever for a Disney movie trailer at the time. Side-by-side trailer comparisons were quickly made online to its 1994 counterpart. It was the first time we saw the CGI animals speak, with emotion and nostalgia running rampant throughout. It confirmed James Earl Jones’ return to his masterful role of Mufasa, proclaiming to a young Simba “While others search for what they can take, a true king searches for what he can give.” The internet and critics fell in love with Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen debuting their comedic voice talents as Timon and Pumbaa.

Including all the work that went into the trailer, Disney spent $145 million promoting the film. Once released it would make $1.6 billion worldwide and become the seventh highest-grossing film at the time.
