10 Movie Characters That Mean More Than You Think
9. Mitchell Carson - Ant-Man
Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan) is an MCU character who seems so insignificant you probably don't even remember his name or who he is.
He appeared in Ant-Man as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s former Head of Defense, a HYDRA operative who attempted to buy Darren Cross' (Corey Stoll) Yellowjacket suit, before Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) showed up and stopped him.
But at the end of the movie, Carson is neither killed nor brought to justice, escaping with a briefcase full of the Pym Particles in a dangling plot thread that's not been referenced in any MCU media ever since.
According to director Peyton Reed, Carson was originally supposed to be captured, but Marvel Studios bigwig Kevin Feige suggested they leave his fate ambiguous, which naturally has fans anticipating the possibility of Carson resurfacing.
With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings set to start shooting next year and Carson seen working with the Ten Rings in Ant-Man, there's a clear possibility that Carson might return in that movie, having perhaps given the Pym Particles to the shady outfit.
And if not, there's always Ant-Man 3 - assuming it happens - because as easy as it is to forget about Mitchell Carson, the guy is one of the MCU's few true nagging loose ends.
If he really doesn't resurface in a future movie, especially with an actor of Donovan's caliber playing him, it'd be hugely surprising.
