3. Star Trek
Dont get us wrong. We like Star Trek, and J.J. Abrams has done a great job on his reboot. However, it feels as though not enough time was left between the climax of The Next Generation crew in Nemesis in 2002 and the introduction of Chris Pines crew in 2009. The reboot franchise has been done well; it is an alternate universe, and it references the original franchise extremely well. However, to Trek fans this seemed like it was too quick to change the franchise. Nemesis saw Datas demise and the destruction of the Enterprise E. The explosive and emotional final scenes resonated with Trekkers and Trekies everywhere, so prior to the release of the reboot fans were rightly sceptical. The reboot has been accessible enough to new fans and stayed loyal to the hopes of original followers. However, the dust from the climactic scenes of Star Trek: Nemesis had barely settled when production for 2009s film began. Although Abrams got most of the reboot right, there are lingering doubts and questions. Does the reboot negate the original franchise? Has the tone shifted irrevocably? Is it too action packed for a Trek film? These questions would have been raised regardless, but the close proximity of Nemesis and the 2009 film enhanced these doubts and issues.
