10 Movies That WASTED Villains From Their Source Material
6. The Mandarin - Iron Man 3
While Iron Man was never one of Marvel's most successful comic book heroes, he's certainly been one of their biggest box office draws. After Iron Man 2 failed to impress audiences with its liberal amalgamation of two villains into one character, Iron Man 3 seemed set to learn from its predecessor's mistakes with its inclusion of iconic Iron Man villain, The Mandarin.
And then, as if by magic, Marvel bungled their handling of the character in what is possibly their biggest misstep in all of the MCU.
Instead of giving Iron Man's oldest foe the respect he should have been afforded, it was instead chosen to make the Mandarin a theoretical villain, with Ben Kingsley playing an actor who was pretending to be the terrorist leader after being hired by lesser Iron Man antagonist Aldrich Killian, who was inexplicably promoted to the role of lead villain for Iron Man 3.
While the end result was by no means a bad movie, the choice to so obviously flaunt the source material was upsetting to many of Iron Man's hardcore fans.
