It's perfectly acceptable to say that you don't like superhero movies.

In the last decade, there has been an almighty tidal wave of content produced both for film and television that has brought comic book adaptations to life, and if you're the sort of person who is suffering from "superhero fatigue", you're probably not going to want to give any attention to grounded superhero films.

Perhaps that's why Unbreakable is an ideal film to show to those who aren't a fan of superhero/supernatural films? It's fundamentally a movie based on a new form of faith-denial - in which David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is scared about the possibility that he is immortal, while Elijah (Samuel L. Jackson) is a man who has fully embraced his semi-cosmic role as a villain the world needs.

Where Unbreakable succeeds, is the slow-burn reveal of the film's fantastical aspects. Audiences are presented with questions and acts that aren't outside the realms of reality, and whether or not you do roll your eyes at the supernatural side of the film, the character-driven plots and relationships between Dunn and those around him is so expertly crafted you forget you're watching a superhero origin story.

Watch the famous gun scene in the movie and imagine Bruce Willis is not immortal. How much more tense of a situation does this scene make?

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
