"In a world where..."

More often than not, when a film's universe is established, every character on screen is unaware of the difference to reality. Which is probably why Yesterday is such a whimsical and unique film; in which a musician wakes up after an accident to discover he is living in a world where The Beatles never existed, and only he remember their existence.

Immediately, non-Beatles fans might scoff at the film as in some ways it is a sugary love-letter to the legacy The Beatles left behind, but really the film is compelling audience members to ask themselves what they would do if a beloved part of pop culture didn't exist, and only they remembered it. Not just the specific piece of culture itself, but the ripple effect of its impact on the world.

What if The Simpsons never existed? Would you try to resurrect their cultural impact? The fantasy element still exists in Yesterday, and while the character of Jack is constantly baffled by the world's ignorance of The Beatles, the mystery of how he fell into such a world does not become the antithesis of the film.

Instead, the film focuses more on the "What If..." aspect, and lets the audience' imagination run alongside and after the credits roll.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
