Well, this has to be a good sign. According to Gunn, he sat down and read literally every single Suicide Squad comic book ever released before starting work on the screenplay for this movie. That gives the filmmaker literally decades of material to borrow from, and it might go some way in explaining the vast array of villains we'll see next year.

Rather than picking a bunch of Batman villains for name recognition purposes only, Gunn is sticking to characters who have actually served as part of Task Force X in some capacity over the years. That's why set photos have confirmed appearances from the likes of Mongal, Javelin, Blackguard, Savant, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher.

That's an eclectic bunch of names, but bear in mind that we're talking about the director who turned the little-known Star-Lord and Groot into household names. As for the big bad Amanda Waller will be sending Task Force X to take down, it's believed to be the immortal Vandal Savage (played by popular Doctor Who alum Peter Capaldi).
