2. Landing In Water Is Like Diving On A Marshmallow

One of the more ridiculous lies that I'm amazed films still get away with is their treatment of water; in an action movie in particular, if a character dives from a grand height into water, they will suffer no ill consequences regardless of whether they just dive or jump. Anyone who is as terrible a diver as I will know first hand how improper technique can make contact with water extremely painful from even just a few feet, so short of an Olympian-grade diving ability, falling a great height into water is going to be extremely painful. One need only look at real-life incidents to see the dire effects water can have on the human body; after a certain height, hitting it is basically the same as hitting concrete, and most suicide victims who jump into water from bridges tend to die because their bones have been broken by the impact, leaving them unable to fight against the current. On the other hand, you're also likely to be knocked unconscious by the impact and drown that way. Boy, what a morbid one this turned out to be...
