10 Post-Credits Movie Scenes That Change Everything

5. Professor X Lives - X-Men: The Last Stand

20th Century Fox

Days Of Future Past may have forced the movie's events totally out of continuity, but Brett Ratner's lug-headed third entry in the X-Men franchise was already having its events rewritten before its own credits had rolled. Not only undoing its depowering of Magneto after mere minutes in the final shot, this mid-credits sting revealed that Charles Xavier had also somehow avoided death, transplanting his consciousness into that brain-dead body overtly teased earlier in the film.

Given the amount of time spent on Professor X's murder it feels a little lazy (much like the rest of the film), but it's impossible to deny it's a pretty seismic development in the universe.

Subsequent X-Men movies have boasted cool little codas - Deadpool is alive, Apocalypse built the pyramids - but none have been as integral to the overall plot; in Days Of Future Past Xavier pops up alive and well with no explanation, making this scene pretty much essential viewing to make sense of it all.

Still, pipping Marvel to the post by two years, this saw comic book movies begin to use elements outside of the movie's standard run time to tell their story, even if here it is admittedly rather disjointed.
