10 Reasons Batman V Superman's Ending Is The Stupidest Part Of The Film

3. Batman's Visit To Lex Adds Nothing

The scene where Batman visits Lex in jail is, put plainly, a perplexing inclusion. The narrative places it in the middle of Superman's funeral, suggesting Bruce ran from Kansas to Metropolis (or wherever Luthor's being held), switched into the Bat getup, delivered his message, then ran all the way back to Smallville in the space of five minutes. Of course, it's meant to happen later on, but this faux par sets up just how much rubbish it's working against. The logistics of the scene are just as faulty, with guards disappearing with the flicker of a light, the other cells empty when they come back on and, if we're going there, Batman being able to take control of a maximum security prison. These are at best ill-developed concepts there to enable this confrontation without any justification; the film is clearly more concerned with the two characters actually meeting rather than how we got there. So what an absolute shame that what Snyder, Goyer and Terror were clearly so desperate to include adds nothing; Batman berates Lex for killing Superman and threatens to brand him, only to show mercy for the first time in the movie to someone who has a mother with a different first name to his (Lex's ma is Lillian) and leave him with just a warning. Wow, that was sure worth it.
