10 Reasons Star Wars: Rogue One Will Be 2016's Highest Grossing Movie
3. The Special Effects Team Is The Best In The Business
George Lucas founded Industrial Light and Magic in 1975 to help bring his vision for Star Wars to the big screen and the venerable company has been at the forefront of FX ever since, recently earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects for The Force Awakens. Spectacle is key in modern blockbuster filmmaking; if a feature wants to earn repeat business, it must provide a visually spellbinding experience worthy enough to lure movie fans away from their home entertainment systems. You can expect ILM to always bring this and, importantly, a key player from The Force Awakens effects team, Neal Scanlan (the man responsible for bringing fan favorite B-88 to life) is actually returning to oversee Rogue Ones creature design and effects. Episode VIIs emphasis on practical effects and puppetry helped to make its fictional world more authentic and therefore more immersive. Scanlan will bring this same zest to the alien species populating Rogue One while also using a continuity of design to help to visually link the anthology film to the greater Star Wars universe. While there will be many spectacle-heavy blockbusters this year, none will have the same immersive quality.
