5. Trap (2024)
It really feels like there should be a support group for moviegoers who go into an M. Night Shyamalan film expecting a return to form, like The Visit or Split, only to be met with total garbage. You could call it the Shyamalan special at this point.
His latest directorial stint, Trap, is not the worst movie in his line-up by far, but it certainly got a lot of folk's blood boiling, given that the promising premise seemed to exist purely to promote the work of his musician daughter, Saleka Night Shyamalan.
The movie centres on a serial killer (played pretty entertainingly by Josh Hartnett) who attends a pop star's concert with his daughter. This star, Lady Raven, is played by the director's daughter, and the whole project feels like an excuse to showcase her music. This makes you feel less like you've gone to see a tense, spooky flick, and more like you're being sold a vanity project.
Even those who enjoyed Trap wound up pissed off at the shameless promotion. No one came out of this film thinking, "I'm so glad I got to watch M. Night Shyamalan's daughter put on a concert in my horror movie."
