10 Recent Movie Deaths Which Left Audiences Completely Stunned

6. Bing Bong - Inside Out

This traumatised audiences of all ages. While Bing Bong, the old imaginary friend from his human Riley’s childhood, wasn’t one of the major protagonists of Pixar’s masterpiece Inside Out, he was immediately beloved thanks to his upbeat exuberance and wonderful voice performance by Richard Kind. He was the ideal kind of supporting character, inherently lovable and emotionally complex, and his inclusion helps the film achieve true greatness.

Yet near the end of the film, Bing Bong and protagonist Joy are trapped in a realm of forgotten memories and have to work together to get back to the surface, singing a song that Riley used to sing while playing with Bing Bong as a child.

When the weight of their cart doesn’t hold up to both of them, Bing Bong sacrifices himself so Joy can get back to the surface. The contrast of Joy’s catharsis of finally being able to reach the surface, before realising that Bing Bong is now destined to be forgotten, is devastating.

The moment that cements the scene is a classic is Bing Bong saying “fly her to the moon for me” as he fades out of existence permanently. No one saw it coming and it still devastates.
