10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Fates Worse Than Death

3. The Incredible Melting Man - Becoming A Murderer To Replenish Your Flesh

The clue is in the name with this one, but it has to be said that there would be nothing ‘incredible’ about having to live this way!

After being subjected to radiation on a mission to Saturn, the one living astronaut (Colonel Steve West) returns to earth and finds that he has one very weird chronic condition: he melts.

West’s scientist friend Doctor Nelson concludes that the only way West is able to stop himself from melting is to consume flesh, which explains the sudden rise in murders around the area.

West is living on the run, killing innocent people to consume their flesh or facing the reality that he will slowly melt away to nothing. He knows there is no known way to cure it or to stop it, only that he doesn’t want to die just yet and so has to keep killing.

It’s scary enough having some small medical condition that you don’t know how to identify or fix, never mind when that condition manifests as something so disturbing and graphic. Again we have the problem of sacrificing his humanity every time he kills for his own survival, essentially making this such a terrible fate as your will to survive is at odds with your conscience.

Also your face is melting, so that sucks too.
