10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Fates Worse Than Death
4. Slither - Grant's Monstrous Final Form
You only need to briefly see protagonist Grant from 2006’s Slither to immediately understand why this is such a cruel fate.
When a meteor brings to Earth a gross alien parasite, Grant is the first to be infected by it and goes on to be the super-spreader that causes the death and mutilation of countless others.
The parasite takes over his body and mind, mutating him into an unrecognisable fleshy monster capable only of spreading the alien larvae. He still retains enough of his humanity to want to be reunited with his wife (even after he attacked her earlier), but not enough of his humanity to realise that assimilating humanity into his hive-mind isn’t a good thing to do.
As the film goes on he becomes more and more disgusting and monstrous, only able to be released from the parasite’s control in death. Even when he eventually gets blown to smithereens, he continues to live on through the cat who takes a nibble of his remains and picks up the parasite to start the cycle all over again.
