10 Simple Things Actors Can’t Make Look Convincing

1. Playing Video Games

It can be baffling when video games are incorporated into film and television, considering the powers that be very clearly have no idea how they work.

The actors often hold the controller in an unnatural way or smash the buttons like a toddler, instead of making clear, precise movements. The performers often move their body frantically while gaming, even though this behaviour has no effect on the gameplay, unless it's a motion-control title.

What's worse is nobody in the production seems to understand the simplest aspects of gaming. In the 1995 action comedy, Rumble in the Bronx, a kid plays a Game Gear despite the fact the console has no cartridge.

Now, since the gaming industry has become vastly popular in more recent years, one would assume there are gamers on every production, to let the performers know how to play for real.

In The 40-Year-Old Virgin, David and Cal use their controllers so differently, it doesn't look like they're playing the same game.

In all sincerity, each movie production should hire an Elite Gamer™️ to show the actors how to play a video game, less like an alien, and more like someone who actually, you know, plays games.
