10 Star Wars Factions You Don't Want To Mess With (Who Aren’t The Sith)

6. Hutts

Jabba Hutt
20th Century Fox

More than just a crime syndicate, the Hutts were a species whose empire spanned vasts parts of the Star Wars galaxy. The Hutts were paranoid by nature, and this led them to be wary of other species in the galaxy. They saw themselves above morality and so were willing to do anything to advance their goals or increase profit.

It was during the Clone Wars that the Hutts solidified their power in the galaxy. Choosing to remain neutral, the Hutts were able to play the Republic and the CIS against each other. They profited from both sides of the conflict.

This was also a time in which the Hutts saw the rise of Jabba. He was able to consolidate various warring clans under his leadership. This made the Hutt Empire all the more powerful and set them up to be able to resist the rise of Palpatine’s Empire.

That’s right, the Hutts were one species that Palpatine seemed unable to conquer. This wasn’t because the Hutt’s were particularly good warriors, they weren’t, but, if they felt threatened they had the power to cause untold economic damage to the Empire.

Through guile and intrigue, the Hutts were able to resist the Empire without ever raising an army.
