10 Times Comic Book Movies Made Us Cry
1. I Am Iron Man - Avengers Endgame
The entirety of the MCU wouldn't exist if not for Iron Man. Starting with his brilliant portrayal in his namesake 2008 film, Robert Downey Jr. has become the embodiment of Tony Stark, who can dish out heartfelt scenes and wisecracking one-liners in equal measure. Though he was able to survive Infinity War in one piece, Endgame proved to be the final gasp from the Avengers' founding father.
After bringing back all of the Avengers after Hulk snaps the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos returns to exact revenge on our heroes. As every single Avenger puts everything they can into keeping the Infinity Stones out of the Mad Titan's reach, it falls on Tony to rip the Stones from Thanos' clutches. As Thanos proclaims the inevitability of his actions, we see all of the Infinity Stones click into place on Tony's gauntlet, culminating in him proclaiming "I Am Iron Man" as he snaps Thanos' fleet out of existence.
The snap did come with a mortal price though, with the burns being too much for Stark to take on, leaving him to fade away as his fellow Avengers look on. As we see Spider-Man and War Machine grieve over the loss of their friend and mentor, Pepper offers the final words as she tells Tony that he can finally rest.
Tony Stark may not have been the most likeable character every time he was onscreen, but to see the impact that he's had on bringing every hero together is more than any proper funeral can express.
