10 Times Horror Movie Directors Gave INSANE Performances As Actors
9. Various - Sleepwalkers
Stephen King may be the king of horror, but that doesn't mean every adaptation is a home run, as Dreamcatcher, Thinner, and The Lawnmower Man demonstrate.
However, Sleepwalkers has to be King's zaniest story. Mick Garris' WTF fantasy contains incestuous energy vampires, invisible cars, and people being murdered by a corn on the cob. Not content with the loony script, every facet of Sleepwalkers is bizarre, including the over-the-top performances, campy tone, and oft-kilter direction.
Adding to the bewilderment, Sleepwalkers contains a whole gaggle of cameos from horror movie creators, including An American Werewolf in London's John Landis, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's Tobe Hooper, Gremlins' Joe Dante, and Hellraiser's Clive Barker.
Just when it seems like Sleepwalkers couldn't cram in any more icons, Stephen King also shows up as an undertaker. (Technically, he counts as a horror director since he helmed the abysmal Maximum Overdrive.) In his brief scene, his character tells a reporter that "I'm not taking the rap for this," which feels like King's way of saying that he's washing his hands of this disastrous adaptation.
Although they don't do much with the roles, seeing so many masters of horror appearing in rapid succession makes this already strange movie even stranger.
