10 Toho Kaiju Who Need To Appear In The MonsterVerse After Godzilla Vs. Kong
1. Mechagodzilla
One of Godzilla’s greatest and most deadly foes,
Mechagodzilla has been one of the few kaiju to appear in Shōwa, Heisei and Millennium
eras. First appearing in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, iterations
of the robotic kaiju have appeared in 1975’s Terror of Mechagodzilla, 1993’s Godzilla
vs. Mechagodzilla II, 2002’s Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and 2003’s Godzilla:
Tokyo S.O.S.
The original Mechagodzilla, appearing in both Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Terror of Mechagodzilla, was built by the aliens from Black Hole Planet 3 and used as their method of invasion. Despite being destroyed in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, they rebuild the robotic kaiju for the sequel. The Heisei era counterpart, seen in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, was built by a military branch known as ‘G-Force’ to defend earth from Godzilla. The final iteration of Mechagodzilla, named Kiryu, appeared in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and was built around the skeleton of the original Godzilla from the 1954 film. The spirit of the original Godzilla was also able to control Kiryu.
The best way to introduce Mechagodzilla into the MonsterVerse
would be to have him be a construction of the humans, either by villains like Alan
Jonah or by Monarch. If he was constructed by villains, he could be an obstacle
that Godzilla and the other kaiju have to overcome to save humanity. Adversely,
if he was constructed by Monarch, he could be used to aid Godzilla against
whatever new kaiju threat is terrorising the earth. Either way, fans would be
clamouring to see Mechagodzilla make his debut in the MonsterVerse.
