10 Trilogies That Actually Get Better With Each Movie
8. The Star Wars Prequels
Even the original Star Wars trilogy can't boast going from strength to strength, as The Empire Strikes Back is undoubtedly better than Return of the Jedi, and is arguably still the best Star Wars movie to this date, almost 50 years later.
However, the prequels are a different story. With anticipation through the roof for the first Star Wars film in nearly two decades, the political setting, along with Jar-Jar Binks and plenty of other aspects, saw The Phantom Menace initially panned upon release.
Attack of the Clones furthered the story considerably with a time jump that brought in Hayden Christiansen as an adult Anakin Skywalker, although no matter how much the prequel trilogy has grown on fans over the years, and though this sequel is an improvement, it's still impossible to watch parts of Episode II and not cringe. Anakin's opinions on sand really could have been cut, right?
Revenge of the Sith was the culmination of Anakin's story, with him finally turning to the Dark Side and becoming Darth Vader, while Ewan McGregor gave his best performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi yet. This was the kind of thing fans wanted from the very beginning, rather than trade route disputes and Gungan warriors running around like idiots.
