10 Underrated Horror Movie Remakes
6. The Crazies (2010)
The original The Crazies wasn't a movie that many were calling for a remake, but when it finally dropped it turned out to be totally worth it. This reimagined story of military chemicals turning folk into violent killers has a lot of great things hidden inside its runtime that shouldn't be overlooked.
For a film shot in a small town in Iowa, the film sure packs a punch visually with a lot of the imagery containing moody shadows that contribute enormously to the visceral style the film goes for.
The horror comes not only from the titular crazy residents, but the government who swoop in and order everyone in the town to be killed too. This leads to some thrilling encounters as our heroes avoid getting gunned down while also surviving infected farmers wielding pitchforks.
The film is almost never brought up in conversation when good horror remakes are mentioned, but it really does elevate the material it is given to work with by adding much more action and style to the proceedings.
It's a mature take on a rather average original film that has great suspense, a slew of creepy visuals and constantly ramps up the stakes to a bombastic finale. Give this 2010 version another viewing and you'll probably be surprised how well it holds up.
