10 Upcoming Blockbusters That Could Massively Disappoint
7. Jurassic World (June 12, 2015)
Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park remains one of the greatest blockbusters ever made; relentlessly exciting, full of thrilling set-pieces and iconic moments, it is unquestionably one of the most endlessly re-watchable summer movies Hollywood has ever produced. Thankfully for director Colin Trevorrow, over 20 years and two disappointing sequels separate his movie from the classic first installment but anticipation is rapidly building for the long-delayed fourth installment. So far, all of the buzz surrounding the project has been of the positive variety. Instead of re-treading the 'let's go back to the island' story of the sequels, Jurassic World will instead take place at a fully-functioning dinosaur theme park, which instantly establishes the narrative as different. A talented ensemble cast has also been assembled, led by current man of the moment Chris Pratt that also features Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Irrfan Khan and Judy Greer. Outside of the basic premise, little else is known about the production but the confirmation that animatronic dinosaurs will be involved is encouraging news, given that most studio blockbusters these days tend to over-rely on CGI. However, there have been plenty of times when a blockbuster has been showered with positive praise during production only to disappoint when it hits theaters, and it is worth remembering that Jurassic World was initially delayed in order for the studio to restructure the project. Studio interference rarely improves things, and after two poor sequels there is every chance the Jurassic Park franchise could disappoint yet again. Perhaps the biggest question mark surrounding Jurassic World is Colin Trevorrow himself. With only one full-length feature to his name that was made for just $750,000, the untested director has made the leap to a $150m blockbuster and for every Gareth Edwards that makes the transition successfully, there is a Carl Rinsch who fails spectacularly.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
