10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Really Aren't Wanted

4. Bright 2

Face Off
Netflix

When Netflix was just starting to enter the big AAA blockbuster space, Bright was one of its first efforts. A fantasy-action film directed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer and led by Will Smith, it was a buzz-worthy project, which translated into some record-shattering viewership numbers upon its December 2017 release.

Interestingly, Netflix had already ordered a sequel before the first film was out the door, and its popularity proved that they had made a wise decision. Bright 2 hasn't been dated yet, but supposedly, it's coming - whether we like it or not.

Why It Isn't Wanted

Though the first film attracted a large audience (which isn't saying much, considering that it was "free" for Netflix subscribers), critics agreed that it was a huge letdown, with its on-the-nose social commentary, weak plot that relied on a few too many conveniences, and under-developed fantasy elements. It was a bit of a mess, and any hype for a follow-up was dampened right out of the gate.

Without a recognisable or beloved brand to lean on, Bright 2 should've come out two or three years after the original, in order to strike while the iron was hot - or rather, lukewarm - and keep the momentum of the first film going.

It just feels too late at this point, and the hype surrounding the sequel can be summed up with two words: nobody cares.
