10 Upcoming Sequels Which Could Actually Be Worth Your Time

6. Pacific Rim 2

Given how popular giant mechs have been in anime for so many years it's surprising it took Hollywood so long to get round to bringing them to life in a blockbuster movie. The first film to really get it right was Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. Well, del Toro almost got it right: the impressive-looking Jaegers and the monstrous Kaijus battling it out on the big screen was a thoroughly entertaining spectacle - less impressive was the story, which meandered along for far too long in the middle, while it never really felt as if the characters were worth caring for. While negative aspects such as these might be cause for concern with most sequels, the fact that de Toro is back on board for the sequel suggests that these complaints might be addressed. He's hardly a director known for being lazy so Pacific Rim 2 could well improve on an impressive but flawed first entry to the franchise. Anticipation factor: Despite its flaws the original wasn't without its charms - and let's face it, who doesn't love a good punch up between giant mechs and skyscraper-sized beasts?
