5. The End Battle Was Smaller
It’s clear the biggest reshuffle in the film happened with the climax, with the initial trailers showing a completely different chain of events in the final battle. There are numerous shots not found in the actual movie, including Jyn facing down a TIE fighter on top of the tower, Krennic walking across the water while dead Stormtroopers float nearby and the rebels running through a building with the Death Star plans.
The exact breakdown of this original ending has yet to be revealed, but it’s easy to piece together that the original scene must have featured the rebels running from one building to another to transmit the Death Star plans, and coming under heavy fire from AT-ACT’s and Stormtroopers.
Disney must have wanted a little more bang for the finale, so most of the battle got reworked in the editing room and - according to rumours - the space battle raging above the planet was greatly expanded.
