10 Weirdest Horror Movies You've Never Heard Of

8. Nightbreed (1990)

The Happiness of Katakuris
20th Century Fox

Clive Barker is one of the most inventive and twisted writers and filmmakers out there, and Nightbreed stands as one of his most bizarre and underrated creations. It has grisly violence, disturbing imagery and monsters whose appearances will stay with you long after the credits have finished rolling.

The film follows a guy called Boone, a mental patient who is tricked into thinking he's an infamous serial killer. In his disbelief and desperation, he hides with a tribe of monsters called the Nightbreed, and, after being killed by police, is reborn as a member of the tribe.

The metaphors about Good vs. Evil and humans being the "real monsters" are fairly on the nose, and Nightbreed occasionally suffers from a clunky narrative, but with its striking visuals, daring plot and spine-tingling characters, it's not a film you're likely to forget, and shows Barker at the height of his imaginative talents.
