12 Awesome Supporting Actors Who Need Their Own Movies
7. Thandie Newton
What a strange career Thandie Newton has had. Though she was introduced to mainstream audiences almost 20 years ago as the female lead in Mission: Impossible II, she surprisingly never managed to graduate beyond supporting parts in high-profile films such as The Chronicles of Riddick, Crash, Norbit (ugh), and more recently, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
But Newton has been setting the TV world on fire in recent years with her acclaimed work on HBO's Westworld, which is nothing if not storming proof of her ability to captivate audiences.
One suspects Newton's age will actually help her here. As is so typically a problem for women in Hollywood, her fresh-faced beauty as a young actress may well have prevented casting agents from taking her seriously in more dramatic roles, but as she enters middle age, she'll likely find a more intriguing array of roles heading her way.
Newton has proven she can play well across a wide gamut of genres, so the sky's the limit here if someone actually bothers to cast her in a leading role.
