Sometimes, fans have theories about movies that seem so smart that everyone immediately wills them into being an addendum to the canon. In rarer circumstances, the film's creators adopt the theory themselves, which is the case with this retcon from Star Wars Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni.

At Star Wars Celebration 2017, he confirmed that the popular fan theory that Captain Rex of The Clone Wars and Rebels was a member of the Rebel strike team in Return of the Jedi would be canonized.
