9. Ewan McGregor - Black Mask (Birds Of Prey)

He might not be the most expected of actors to play a dyed-in-the-wool piece-of-sh*t bad guy, but rumour has it that Ewan McGregor has absolutely nailed his take on Batman villain Black Mask. The Gotham City crime lord will make his debut in Birds Of Prey and while the revelation that he would apparently be comic book movies' first openly gay - and "flamboyantly" so, according to the initial reports - were met with a somewhat divided response, it's all an intriguing set-up.

McGregor hasn't got a huge amount of experience playing dark characters, but it's easy to forget looking at his more recent career profile that he started out in Trainspotting, so he's not a total stranger to crime.

There may be slight concerns about Harley Quinn once more meeting an ostentatious Gotham crime lord with a penchant for the theatrical, but the little we've seen of Black Mask so far suggests he's an entirely different animal to Jared Leto's Joker. Which can only be a good thing.
