12 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For
6. Toy Story 4
Release Date: June 21
Does it really feel like we're getting a new Toy Story movie in three-and-a-half months? The suspiciously low-key marketing so far doesn't paint an encouraging picture for a sequel that couldn't feel more perfunctory and unnecessary if it tried.
Toy Story 3 did such a wonderful job tying off the series, but because Disney loves money, of course that ending is being undone in the pursuit of another billion-dollar payday.
Pixar honcho John Lasseter has claimed that the movie only exists because the premise for the sequel was too good to turn down, but does anyone really believe that?
Could It Be Any Good?: It would be foolish to assume that Toy Story 4 won't at least be a good movie: even if it's a steep drop from the previous trilogy, there's virtually no chance of it turning out like, say, Cars 2.
It's probably reasonable to expect a film of Monsters University's quality: an unnecessary but mildly charming and gorgeously animated film.
But there will be an undeniable cloud hanging over it as fans wonder why it even exists in the first place (beyond the obvious reason).
