13 Most Controversial Movie Moments Of 2017
9. The Disappointed Abortionist - Brawl In Cell Block 99
The Moment: The plot for S. Craig Zahler's new exploitation classic sees prisoner Bradley (Vince Vaughn) forced to kill a maximum security inmate, or an abortion will be performed on his wife, Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter), who is eight months pregnant.
Eventually, Bradley manages to get one over on the Mexican cartel kingpin who organised the kidnap, and convinces him to call off the abortion over the phone. Cut to the secluded location where Lauren is being held, where the Korean abortionist is informed (by Udo Kier, hilariously) that there's been a change of plan.
Cue the abortionist looking utterly heartbroken and defeated upon learning that he won't get to kill the baby.
Why It's Controversial: This one speaks for itself, really. In a movie where Vince Vaughn drags a man's face across a concrete floor with his foot and shatters another man's jaw like it's nothing, this was by far the most f***ed up moment.
To some it was tastelessly crude and just a step too far, but to others, it was a dementedly hilarious flash of blackly dark comedy. There are no wrong answers here, but it definitely divided people.
