For all the unnecessary spoilers in the trailers, Marvel and Sony actually did pretty well protecting their most valuable plot detail in Spider-Man: Homecoming. In establishing a culture of hidden surnames, they made everyone think every character was someone from the comics, but it was still a brilliant bit of misdirection to reveal that Peter Parker's love interest Liz was actually the daughter of his first arch-nemesis The Vulture.

When Peter turns up at the Toomes' house, deliciously unaware of her family, seeing Adrian open the door is a wham shot of quite astounding genius. Not only does it flesh out Vulture's character considerably (giving him more sympathetic humanity than his working class hero spurned shtick), but it also drops Peter into the middle of the Xenomorph nest laden with eggs.

It would have been simple to establish this tension without a pay-off, but Homecoming then doubled down on the reveal by having Toomes immediately realise Peter is Spider-Man, leading to one of the most artfully crafted scenes of tension-building ever seen in the genre as the trio drive to the dance.

The Michelle is MJ twist was another good one, but it was far more expected (and The Dark Knight Rises had already pulled the same trick with Robin John Blake).
