The world waited what felt like forever for the 2015 arrival of Jurassic World, and whilst A Monster Calls helmer J.R Bayoga’s 2018 follow-up Fallen Kingdom may have been a haphazard and tonally inconsistent effort, this flick from Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow managed to marry the blockbuster scale action of the 1993 original with some charming character comedy courtesy of odd couple Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt.

Featuring some superb set pieces including an absurdly dark demise for Slasher star Katie McGrath and offering choice supporting roles to the likes of Judy Greer and a hammy Vincent D’Onofrio, this action-packed thrill ride captured the spirit of Spielberg’s awe-inspiring original whilst updating both the scale and the sly satire underlying proceedings for the new century—after all, no one lays the blame at the feet of a poor programmer whose just looking for a well-deserved raise in this one.
