Bringing one of the biggest operations of World War II to the big screen could be a risky venture in the hands of anyone else, but under the direction of Christopher Nolan it’s practically guaranteed to be done brilliantly and respectfully.

Even though Dunkirk is an entirely different beast to the likes of the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception there’s something distinctly Nolan-esque about its trailer, from tension-filled moments in scenes of soldiers lined up like sitting ducks awaiting evacuation to its bleak cinematography.

Like many Nolan films before it, Dunkirk is also a showcase of British and Irish acting talents: we see his frequent collaborator Cillian Murphy as a soldier rescued by Mark Rylance’s intrepid fisherman, Tom Hardy as a dashing Spitfire pilot and Kenneth Branagh as a posh, high ranking officer.

For better or worse, former One Direction tween heartthrob Harry Styles makes his acting debut in the film too but luckily the trailer seems to suggest he won’t be in it for too long.
