1. Warner Bros. Announces Release Dates For 9 Upcoming DC Films
DC fans rejoice! After years of waiting, Warner Brothers have finally made giant leaps forward in terms of building a cinematic universe around their DC properties. They tried and failed to bring Green Lantern to the big screen in 2011, then put their long-term plans on hold long enough for Christopher Nolan to complete the Dark Knight trilogy. Once that was out, they released Man of Steel, and laid the groundwork for a shared cinematic universe that will be explored in greater detail in 2016, when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters. Up until this point, the studio has been hesitant to greenlight or announce anything beyond Superman and Batman films. They even decided to make a film with Superman
and Batman before diving in to a larger DCCU. Now, however, they've shifted gears and finally announced that they have nine additional DC films planned, which will hit theaters between 2016 and 2020:
March 25, 2016 - Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice August 5, 2016 June 23, 2017 November 17, 2017 March 23, 2018 July 27, 2018 April 5, 2019 June 14, 2019 April 3, 2020 June 19, 2020
As you can see, none of the films apart from Batman V Superman have been titled, but some of those announcements are expected to arrive later this month. In the meantime, we'll have to just enjoy the fact that DC finally has their s**t together, and fight off those who claim that "there are too many superhero movies" coming out. That concludes this week's WhatCulture.com News Brief! What did you think of the stories this week? Are you excited about DC's film slate, Arrested Development Season 5, more Vampire Chronicles films, and True Detective Season 2? What are your thoughts on the new title for Terminator: Genisys?
