15 Devilishly Clever Movie Secrets You Probably Missed

3. John Landis' Secret Film

See You Next Wednesday
Universal

Almost all of John Landis' works, starting from his first film Schlock in 1973 and running all the way through the 90's, feature a reference to a film that doesn't even exist but that ties them all together in a bizarre parallel universe rivalling those of Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith. The film is called "See You Next Wednesday," and appears in the form of movie posters, marquees, billboards, and sometimes even lines spoken by characters.

The title is apparently a reference to an insignificant throwaway line in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The line is spoken by the father of one of the astronauts who is seen engaging in a video chat with his son. Apparently this one line - which wasn't even in the script for the film - left such a huge impact on Landis that he created an entire fake film based on that one line and allured to it in his films for over 20 years.

And people called Kubrick crazy.
