15 Films You Didn't Realise Were Remakes

10. Big

True Lies
Fox

In Big, a teenager makes a wish to be taller and wakes up the next morning in an adult body. Despite the film's popularity during the 1980s, few people realise that Big is a remake. This is all the more surprising since the original was only released one year earlier!

The movie that inspired Big, Da Grande, is an Italian comedy that centres around a boy called Marco. When his father forgets his birthday present, he storms into his bedroom and wishes that he wasn't a child anymore. Suddenly, a light appears and shoots a wave of energy, enlarging everything in the room including Marco's goldfish, mouse, and houseplant. When the light disappears, Marco sees that he now harbours the body of an adult.

Panicking, he runs away and moves into the house of his schoolteacher, Francesca, who falls in love with him. Because he has the mind of a child, he has a natural rapport with kids and so, becomes a babysitter.

When Marco reverts to normal at the end of the movie, Francesca realises that the man she loved was actually a child. Francesca makes a wish to turn her into a little girl so she can date Marco.
